Yahrzeit Memorial Board 188 plaques

This memorial composition for a synagogue is designed as a unified architectural Memorial Board, created to serve as a central visual and spiritual element within the synagogue interior. The project combines traditional Jewish symbolism, sacred sites of the Land of Israel, and high-quality craftsmanship typical of custom synagogue memorial plaques .

The installation consists of three panels and can function as a Synagogue Memorial Board, Yahrzeit Memorial Board allowing the community to honor members, families, and benefactors.

The central panel, approximately 130 × 130 cm, forms the artistic and symbolic centerpiece of the composition. The upper section features a sculptural bas-relief inspired by the texture and warm tones of Jerusalem stone, creating a strong visual connection to the architecture of the Holy Land.

Within this relief are three important spiritual landmarks representing different dimensions of Jewish heritage.

At the center appears Rachel’s Tomb (Kever Rachel), one of the most revered sites in Jewish tradition. For centuries this place has symbolized prayer, compassion, and hope. Jewish people from around the world come here to pray for comfort, protection, and blessing. The recognizable domed structure evokes the deep emotional connection between generations of the Jewish people.

On the right side is the entrance to the tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai in Meron, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Israel. Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai is associated with the spiritual depth of Torah and the mystical tradition. Each year during Lag BaOmer, thousands gather at this sacred place to light fires and celebrate the spiritual light of his teachings.

On the left stands the Tower of David in Jerusalem, one of the most iconic historical symbols of the city. This image represents the legacy of King David, the history of Jerusalem, and the enduring connection of the Jewish people to their eternal capital.

Together these three images form a powerful spiritual axis:

the compassion and prayer of Mother Rachel
the spiritual light of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai
the eternal strength of Jerusalem symbolized by the Tower of David

Beneath the sculptural relief lies a field of 188 polished brass nameplates, designed for engraved dedications honoring members of the community, families, or individuals whose memory is preserved within the synagogue. The warm golden tone of the brass creates an atmosphere of dignity and permanence.

On both sides of the central panel stand two vertical memorial boards measuring approximately 60 × 120 cm each. These panels are designed as architectural elements resembling synagogue windows.

The upper sections contain artistic menorah stained-glass compositions made from real stained glass. Each piece of glass is individually cut and assembled using traditional stained-glass techniques, giving the artwork depth, texture, and a luminous quality when light passes through it.

The stained glass is composed of amber, gold, orange, and deep red tones, creating the visual impression of living flames. The menorah symbolizes Ner Neshama — the eternal light of the soul, a central concept in Jewish remembrance.

The lower section of each side panel contains 48 engraved brass nameplates, allowing the community to dedicate additional memorial or donor inscriptions.

Altogether, the full memorial installation includes 204 engraved nameplates, making it suitable as a comprehensive Synagogue Memorial Wall or Yahrzeit Dedication System.

The entire composition is built around the warm palette of Jerusalem stone, illuminated stained glass, and polished brass. This combination creates a harmonious balance between tradition, sacred symbolism, and refined artistic design.

Rather than functioning simply as a list of names, this installation becomes a spiritual wall of remembrance, where each engraved name is symbolically connected to the light of the menorah and the sacred heritage of the Land of Israel.

Such memorial boards often become a central element of synagogue architecture while also serving as an important donor recognition installation, helping communities preserve memory, honor supporters, and strengthen Jewish institutions for future generations.

This project was designed and produced by Shtern Amber, a studio specializing in custom synagogue memorial boards, Jewish donor walls, stained glass memorial installations, and artistic Judaica architectural elements created for Jewish communities around the world.
